Important Announcements

International Spouse/Partner Reception
Do you have a spouse or partner who would like to meet other international spouses/ partners and learn about resources at Tulane and in the community? 
OISS will host an International Spouse/ Partner Reception on November 6 at 10:30 a.m. 
Please share this survey with any international spouses/ partners you know so that we can be sure that everyone is informed of this event.

è The OISS Office will be closed on Friday 10/31 at 2PM in accordance with the University’s early Halloween/Football Game closure.

è Christmas International House (CIH) is a nation-wide ecumenical-based organization providing friendship and hospitality to international students during two weeks of the Christmas holidays. Applications are accepted through their website. The application period ends November 15, 2014. For more information please visit their website. ISAB ZOO MEETUP
November 9th
ISAB would like to invite you to join them on Sunday November 9th for a fun filled Zoo Trip.
*Limited Supply* Tickets are available for $5 plus fees via Brown Paper Tickets starting on 10/31 at 9AM

è Please print out your ticket and bring it to the OISS Office. Your print at home ticket will be exchanged for a physical zoo ticket.

Meet up at 11AM in the Zoo by the flamingos (inside entrance, right side)!
If you cannot meet at this time, tickets can still be purchased for personal use and are valid for 1 year.

TULANE AND LOCAL EVENTS
11/1/14 Day of the Dead Celebration at Casa Borrega - New Orleans and Mexico share a tradition of honoring our departed. All Saints Day cemetery sprucing is a local tradition as is celebration of Halloween. Dia de Los Muertos, the most important holiday of the year for Mexicans, conjures the psyche of the nation through plays, music and sweets depicting the dead. Costume and dance also figure prominently during this holiday in both cultures. For more details about this event, please follow the link  (CLICK HERE)

11/5/14 United Against Ebola – Red, White and Blue Benefit: 7PM-9PM.  Wear red, white & blue to support our Liberian friend Abel Cheayan in his nonprofit's grassroots efforts to prevent the spread of Ebola. Join us for a night of African drumming & dancing as we show solidarity in Liberians' work against the spread of Ebola!  Location: Hi-Ho Lounge, 2239 Saint Claude Ave. For More information, follow the link. Ongoing: *NEW* Tidewater Building (Downtown Campus) has allocated # 1819 from 1-3 pm on all weekdays as quiet prayer space for students of all religious denominations.

In honor of Halloween, here are some fun facts and happenings for your Halloween Weekend!

KREWE DE BOO PARADE ROUTE
Thursday October 30 @ 6:30PM
Mardi Gras Style Parade in the French Quarter. The thrill of riding amongst the monsters and eerie creatures in the Krewe of BOO! is an exhilarating experience you’ll always remember.


TULANE HOME FOOTBALL GAME
Friday, Oct. 31 @ 7 p.m. vs. Cincinnati, Yulman Stadium (Halloween Night)
-     It’s the Ghoulman Stadium Spooktacular! Come visit the Academy Sports Kids Zone, with inflatables, face painters, trick-or-treating and more!
-     Tailgating will start on the LBC & Newcomb Quads at 3 p.m.
-     Dress in costume for the costume contest!

Samhainophobia is the fear of Halloween

Fifty percent of kids prefer to receive chocolate candy for Halloween, compared with 24% who prefer non-chocolate candy and 10% who preferred gum.

10/29/14 Take Back The Night: 23rd annual Take Back the Night march @ Loyola's Marquette Hall to Tulane. “You know, I don’t have a favorite food. I enjoy food in general. I really enjoy seafood jambalaya!”
What is your favorite thing about Tulane?
“I love that after all of these years I have met so many people that I know who to go to to get things done.
How long have you worked at Tulane?
“32 years.”
In your time here, have you found any restaurants that you love?
“Nirvana on Magazine. The food is so spicy. Also, Lebanon’s on Carrolton. I could eat there every day.”
How has working with students and scholars from all over the world influenced your life?
“The joy in my work is the interaction. I learn new things every day. It is very rewarding. I love being able to help students with problems they might have and I love to see them succeed.”
