The Fans have spoken and the winner, announced at the FAQ on Friday, is Nithya Kasireddy, PhD Candidate in Biomedical Engineering. Dialogues on Difference 2016 The Community Engagement Advocates are offering a series of free workshops open to the Tulane community about issues of power, privilege and identity. This Fall, the monthly workshop topics will be “Race + Racism”, “Classism + Inequality”, and “Gender + Sexuality”. These 90 minute sessions are designed to create space for members of the Tulane community to learn, share and explore these topics together through dialogue and interactive activities. Space is limited to 25 participants per session and participants are strongly encouraged to RSVP on Orgsync to ensure a spot. CELT + OGPS - Bag Lunch Series - "Innovations in Graduate Education" The Center for Engaged Learning and Teaching and the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies are pleased to present this series to be hosted by Brian S. Mitchell, Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. It is intended to engage faculty, Directors of Graduate Studies, and graduate students/postdocs interested in faculty careers in a dialogue on current theories and developments in graduate education. All meetings will be held from 12 to 1 pm. Drinks and cookies will be provided, but attendees should bring their own lunch if they wish. Wednesday, 11/16, in Stibbs Conference Room, LBC, and will cover Career Success (Rubio, Acad Med, 86, 1571, 2011) CAPS - Dissertation Progress Groups The Dissertation Progress Groups will help students explore how they might overcome personal barriers while engaging with their project. They will be discussing common dilemmas facing graduate students trying to move forward with their work, and assist in identifying strategies for taking the edge off the strain. TUCP Presents: Vanessa Bayer! Wednesday, October 26 from 8:00-9:30pm Come out to McAlister Auditorium (Bldg. 43) to see SNL's Vanessa Bayer perform stand up comedy! Vanessa returned to SNL for her seventh season and recently starred in the box office hit "Trainwreck" alongside Amy Schumer. Bayer will next be seen in Susan Johnson's independent feature, "Carrie Pilby," as well as in the Dreamworks feature "Office Christmas Party." Maille Faughnan, a Tulane doctoral candidate in the Payson program in global development, will present her experiences and insights from conducting recent field research in rural Kenya on the uptake of human-centered design mindsets and methods for an international development organization.

Presentation: Berta Caceres' Daughter - Human Rights Activist Thursday, October 27 at 6:30pm, Room 102 in Jones Hall (#25) Attend a presentation by the daughter of Berta Cáceres, a human rights activist that helped to transform many aspects of the social and political atmosphere in Honduras. Come out and hear first hand from her daughter, Olivia Zúñiga Cáceres. Talk will be in Spanish with English interpretation provided. Tulane Alternative Breaks (TAB): Roots of Renewal and City Park Roots of Renewal is asking for volunteers for a two-day project on November 5th (10AM-5PM) and the 6th (1-5PM). This two-day commitment includes orientation, so no experience is necessary! The participants will survey around Central City, interacting with citizens and collecting data to analyze the poverty in the community. They will be doing service at City Park on November 19th from 8:45AM to 12:15PM. With other volunteers from all over the city, participants will be involved in forest improvement including tree plantation and clearing the trail. DOWNTOWN HOURS + ITO + LUNCHES Location: Tidewater Building Room 2460, Time: Tuesdays, 1:00-4:00 pm Downtown hours are an opportunity for international students, scholars, and staff at Tulane's downtown campus to meet with an OISS advisor, ask questions, and request services. If you are a new int'l student at the downtown campus, you can also complete your required check-in process during these hours. Starting on September 20th WFMO’s international tax office is going to have a representative available every other Tuesday. This is a resource for international students and scholars to get assistance with U.S. taxes and get answers to tax-related questions. We will also have scheduled lunches at Tidewater Room 1210, from 12:00 - 1:00 P.M. They will take place on October 25th and November 15th. This will be a time for students, faculty, and staff to relax and take a break from studying. 2016 Azúcar Ball
This will be a festive night of music, dancing, great food and entertainment. The prestigious Gálvez Cup will also be awarded to an outstanding member of our community as part of the program, which also will include an exciting silent auction.
