OPT is a benefit
available to all students who have been in F-1 status for at least one
academic year. OPT allows you to work in your field of study for up to 12
months (27 months for certain STEM fields).

Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) Meet Up
Wednesday, September 30, 10:00 am to
2:00 pm
Join a group of Tulane students for a visit to the New
Orleans Museum of Art. The museum is free every Wednesday for Louisiana
residents, so bring your Splash Card and get into NOMA for free. Explore
one of the best art museums in the South, with a permanent collection of
over 40,000 items from around the world and current exhibitions about
Louisiana history. Bring lunch or snacks to enjoy in the beautiful
Sculpture Garden next to the museum.
Uptown students meet at Bruff Commons at 10:00 am and we
will take the shuttle to Deming together. Downtown students meet at Deming
at 10:40 am. We will take the City Park streetcar near Deming and get to
NOMA around 11:00 am. We’ll leave NOMA around 2:00 pm, but you are free to
stay as long as you like!
Career Workshop
for International Students
This will be an
informational and interactive presentation about career-
related
topics for all international students. We will cover topics such as
Western business culture, interviewing skills, discussing immigration
status with employers, the unique transferable skills internationals
students offer employers, tips for academic success and information about
what the Career Services Center has to offer.

ESL Class for International Spouses/Partners
English for Academic and Professional Purposes is pleased
to announce this exciting class starting September 9. Join

This year we are building the non-credit program completely

available time. The class meets several times a week at both

and professional goals. We have had undergrads, grad students,
postdocs, spouses, children, staff and faculty all participate. This

Be a Visitor Speaker
on Latin America in your Community
The Latin American Resource Center is looking for speakers
for the Fall 2015 semester!
If you are a faculty member, post-doc or student who is a
part of Latin American Studies or any of its affiliated departments, you

Are you passionate about America’s wetlands, and want to assist
in their upkeep and restoration? Come help the Friends of Louisiana
Wildlife Refuges, along with a host of other volunteers, cleanup and
restore the Southeast Louisiana National Wildlife Refuges Complex in
Lacombe, Louisiana. Volunteers will work on trail and garden maintenance
throughout the property, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in the
wetland ecosystem, and contribute to the overall beatification of the park.
After a morning of work, lunch will be provided followed by a canoe outing
on Bayou Lacombe. If you are passionate about the wetland ecosystem, love
the outdoors, and don’t mind getting your hands dirty, this is the trip for
you!

Kevin Breel: Author, Comedian, Activist

Author, comedian,
and activist Kevin Breel is coming to Tulane to share his experiences and
to bring our community together to support mental well-being. Kevin Breel
is best known for his passionate TEDx talk with over 3 million views
entitled “Confessions of a Depressed Comic.” There will be free food at the
event.

Visible in New Orleans with the maximum eclipse being 9:47
pm. Sometimes the moon has a reddish glow as it passes through the
earth's shadow. It will be an event well worth watching as it
conveniently occurs in the evening hours.
Newcomb Film Series: Trials of Spring
Tuesday, September 29. 3:30 p.m.
Freeman Auditorium, Woldenberg Art Center (Building #81).
The Trials of Spring screening will feature six short films
that offer a rarely seen look at the gripping personal experiences of
female activists in the wave of revolutions in the Middle East and North
Africa. The films profile nine women across Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Syria,
Bahrain and Yemen, with each detailing their journey through uprisings and
crackdowns. While each story is unique, they often share an arc similar to
the larger political developments of the post-revolution countries in the
region, where an initial hope for change is quashed by increasing
repression and conflict. The screening will feature remarks and a Q/A
session with filmmaker Lauren Feeney.

Organizing Workshop
SOAR Presents:
Undoing Racism/Community Organizing Workshop
What is it? Are
you concerned with confronting racism and economic oppression as a student,
staff, or faculty member at Tulane? Do you want to be an effective
community organizer in your school, neighborhood, city, and world? Come to
this workshop to better understand what racism is, where it
comes from, how it functions, why it persists and how it can be
undone.
Who provides it? This
unique workshop is facilitated by The People’s Institute for Survival
and Beyond, a national, multiracial, anti-racist network of anti-racist
organizers dedicated to ending racism and other forms of institutional
oppression.
When is it? The
workshop will take place Friday, October 9th -
Sunday, October 11th. The
exact times are as follows: Friday 6pm - 8pm, Saturday
9am - 5pm, and Sunday 1pm - 5pm.
Where is it? The
workshop will take place on Tulane's Uptown Campus in Newcomb
Hall Room 123.
