The Laulands had a full house this weekend! International students visited their home to share a home-cooked meal with the family.
Thank you to everyone who participated in our Experience American Taste (EAT) Program this past weekend. We hope you enjoyed a feast of good food and had a great time conversing with one another!
International Education Week
This week, November 16-20, is International Education Week at Tulane. There will be many events happening throughout this week to promote and celebrate the global village at Tulane University. Some of these activities include:
 | Brazilian Forró dance lessons, Portuguese language activities, and focus on the African Diaspora in Brazil. |
 | Italian cinema night, featuring the vivid historical drama “I Am Not Scared”. |
 | Indian celebration of Diwali, the Festival of Lights, and recollections of studying abroad in India. |
 | Work Abroad event, with representatives from the Peace Corps, Fulbright, Insight Cuba, and more. |
 | Global Perspectives, a Pecha Kucha event on internationals’ experiences at Tulane. |
 | Summer 2016 international service-learning opportunities from the Center for Public Service.

Downtown hours
Location: Tidewater Building, Room 2460
Time: Tuesdays, 12:00- 4:00p.m.
Downtown hours are an opportunity for international students, scholars, and staff at Tulane’s downtown campus to meet with an OISS advisor, ask questions, and request services. If you are a new international student at the downtown campus, you can also complete your required check-in process during downtown hours.
Coffee Hours
Location: Josephine Louise Ballroom (Bldg # 75, Uptown)
Time: Thursdays, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Theme: No Coffee Hour This Week
Uptown coffee hours will be held weekly, with a different theme each week!
Prayer Space (Downtown)
Location: Tidewater Room 1506
Time: Open when building is open
Tidewater Building, 15th Floor, Room 1506 has been dedicated as a quiet prayer space for students of all religious denominations.

Visiting international students and scholars share their stories during these Pecha Kucha events.
The Global Perspectives special event will take place at the following time:

Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner
The O and OISS are holding a Thanksgiving Potluck  Dinner for students and staff that will be on campus during the holiday break. The event is open to the entire Tulane community and will have a Kid’s Zone to drop off children. We are not only looking for people to attend, but are also looking for volunteers to serve food and volunteers to bring food. If interested, please RSVP using the forms below:

 End of Semester Holiday Event
Join the OISS at our holiday celebration to close out the end of the semester.
This event will feature staff speeches, awards, dinner, international holiday treats, and a white elephant gift exchange. We would love for everyone to attend,especially graduating students.
§ Attendees are encouraged to contribute a traditional holiday treat to share with others.
§ Attendees are also encouraged to participate in the “White Elephant Gift Exchange”. To participate, please bring a wrapped, gender-inclusive gift of up to $10 to the event. The gift does not have to be new and can be wacky. The instructions will be explained during the event. Even if you don’t participate, it is a fun game to watch!

OPPORTUNITIES AT TULANE
The Office of Student Programs is currently inviting students to apply to be an Orientation Team Leader. The OTL position is a paid position where selected students are hired at the end of January and work from February through June to prepare for and implement New Student Orientation. OTLs will also return mid-August to make final preparations for Fall Welcome. OTLs are positive role models and guide for incoming new students.

Ogden Museum’s Free Family Day

On Saturday, November 21, the Ogden Museum will present a Free Family Day: Mixed Up Media. This free admission day includes family friendly art projects, entertainment, and food vendors. Projects will utilize unusual and found objects such as recycled plastics, buttons, beads, and more! Fun for the who family!

Oak St. Po-Boy Festival
Saturday, November 22 & Sunday, November 23. 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Oak St.
The Oak Street Po-Boy fest is a uniquely New Orleanian festival, designed to honor the humble po-boy sandwich and to help revitalize the booming Oak Street business corridor. Come down to the festival to try all types of po-boys and to shop at the local boutiques and stores on Oak St.
Canal Street Lighting Ceremony
Tuesday, November 24. 5:30 p.m. 739 Canal St.
Stroll along Canal Street and watch as the Downtown Development District flip the switch, turning on ore than 1 million twinkling lights on New Orleans’ grand corridor. With the Donation of an unwrapped toy, kids can join Santa and decorate holiday cookies in Astor Crowne Plaza’s ballroom from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Tunes for Toys: Free Concert featuring Trombone Shorty
Tuesday, December 1. 8:00 p.m. McAlister Auditorium.
Tulane University and the Trombone Shorty Foundation present Tunes for Toys – a free concert for the community. All are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy in exchange for admission.
Faux/Real NOLA: Festival of the Arts
Month of November at Various Locations.
Faux/Real is an all new arts festival that celebrates the creative artists of theater, literature, food, and drink. Its mission is to curate three weeks of top-tier performances, readings, tastings, and parties in one of the most thrilling cities on Earth.
