OISS Spring Break Schedule/RemindersOISS will be open regular business hours during spring break, however, there are some exceptions/programming cancellations: · We will not have a Global Café on Monday, March 27. CGE NEWS & EVENTSInternational Food and Music Festival 2017 The Office of International Students and Scholars and the Office of Multicultural Affairs are pleased to announce the return of the annual International Food and Music Festival! This festival is meant to bring Tulane’s international community together and showcase your food and culture to the Tulane and New Orleans community. The event is THIS SATURDAY! We have started the search for volunteers for the following tasks:
International Mom's Club Parenting Resource Meeting Sunday, March 19, 3:30- 5:30 pm, Greenbaum House, 1st Floor Lounge (Bldg. 71 Uptown Campus) Are you a parent looking for information about health insurance, immunizations, daycares, schools, parks, and recreation options for your child? Then please save the date for this special event! We will also have a parent educator from the Children's Hospital Parenting Center presenting on child development and parenting skills! Come learn some new tips and positive tricks to try with your little one! Childcare will be provided in a separate Greenbaum room.
Invitation: Academics United Dedication at the Newcomb Museum
On February 9, 2017, Tulane joined colleges and universities nationwide to show support for those affected by the recent executive order on immigration. Newcomb Art Museum in partnership with the Office of International Students and Scholars and the Office of Multicultural Affairs recreates this gesture of inclusion by staging a similar display with many of the original messages. You will have the opportunity to write a message of support and we will also offer a chance for you to speak or share a poem, etc. Please email oiss@tulane.edu if you would like to speak. Tulane After Dark presents a free screening of Sing in the Reily Center Pool! Float on an inner-tube while enjoying a movie in our pool. A koala impresario stages a grand singing competition for the world's animals in order to save his elegant theater in this quirky animated musical. Kelly Knapp is a Newcomb College alumna ('98) and civil rights attorney who lives in San Francisco. One of the largest women's prisons in the country is now working to reduce violence and harassment against incarcerated women after Kelly spurred a comprehensive and intensive invesitgation. Kelly also helped win an order from the U.S. Supreme Court requiring the State of California to reduce its prison population by 43,000 prisoners to address overstretched prison healthcare $tart $mart Salary Negotiations Workshop
$mart $tart participants learned how to compare skills and accomplishments to job requirements and how to target a realistic salary range; developed negotiation strategies; practiced negotiation using exercises based on real life New Orleans job descriptions; and constructed a “bare bones” budget to ensure their first salary would cover student loan repayments and other basic expenses. The Living Library or Human LibraryTM started in 2000 at the Roskilde Festival in Copenhagen, Denmark, and was organized by a youth organization called “Stop the Violence.” Their goal was to challenge stereotypes, encourage dialogue, and build positive relations among community members. Taking place on the Tulane Uptown Campus, individuals volunteer to be “books” and attendees become “readers” who check out a book, meaning they will sit with the volunteer to hear their story. Food and refreshments will be provided to volunteer books, and staff and event volunteers will be present to facilitate. The annual Tennessee Williams Literary Festival is named after the world-famous playwright who made New Orleans his home during one of the most creative periods in his life.
