The Office of International Students and Scholars and the Office of Multicultural Affairs are pleased to announce the return of the annual International Food and Music Festival! This festival is meant to bring Tulane’s international community together and showcase your food and culture to the Tulane and New Orleans community. We have started the search for volunteers for the following tasks:

Join us Mondays from 3 to 5 PM for coffee and conversation in the Pederson Lobby in the Lavin-Bernick Center for University Life (behind the ATMs one level below the food court, on garden level). Sponsored by the Office of Study Abroad, the Office of International Students and Scholars and the Lavin-Bernick Center for Student Life. 
HAPPENINGS AT TULANEDining Services: Mardi Gras Break Hours of Operations LBC Food Court will be Closed Feb. 28th for Mardi Gras. Bruff Commons will have shortened hours Feb. 27th and will be closed Feb. 28th. Please click the picture for a more information. 
Dining Services: Simple Servings Simple Servings is a new resident dining option, providing safe and appetizing food choices for students with food allergens or gluten intolerance. The Simple Serving station will not offer foods containing the FDA most-common allergens of peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish,wheat, soy, milk products, and eggs. The program will be located at Bruff Commons running from Monday - Friday from 11:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M., and Monday - Thursday from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. Tulane After Dark Presents: LaLa Land
Written and directed by Academy Award (R) nominee Damien Chazelle, LA LA LAND tells the story of Mia [Emma Stone], an aspiring actress, and Sebastian [Ryan Gosling], a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams. Free food and drink will be available! 
Women to Women Mentoring: Apply to Receive a Mentor Apply by March 3rd This semester, women-identified and gender minority sophomores, juniors, and seniors can apply to be matched with an alumna mentor. Through the program, students can develop one-on-one relationships with a professional mentor. More information about the program here> $tart $mart Salary Negotiations Workshop
$mart $tart participants learned how to compare skills and accomplishments to job requirements and how to target a realistic salary range; developed negotiation strategies; practiced negotiation using exercises based on real life New Orleans job descriptions; and constructed a “bare bones” budget to ensure their first salary would cover student loan repayments and other basic expenses. International Mom's Club Events Parenting Resource Meeting: Sunday, March 19, 3:30- 5:30 pm, Location TBA, Uptown Campus Are you a parent looking for information about health insurance, immunizations, day cares, schools, parks and recreation options for your child? Liuzza Land Strawberry Farm Trip: Saturday, April 8 Become an Explore Coordinator Applications due March 12 These pre-move in programs are designed to introduce students to each other, to Tulane, and to the broader New Orleans community to enhance their integration into university life. Our student staff assist the professional staff and lead team-building experiences. This position is unpaid; however, student staff are granted campus housing early move-in privileges and participate in all of the activities and meals with their group. Become a Fall Welcome Orientation Cooridnators Applications due March 12 As a Fall Welcome OC you’ll work closely with incoming students to help familiarize them with Tulane during the first three weeks of classes. The Living Library or Human LibraryTM started in 2000 at the Roskilde Festival in Copenhagen, Denmark, and was organized by a youth organization called “Stop the Violence.” Their goal was to challenge stereotypes, encourage dialogue, and build positive relations among community members. Taking place on the Tulane Uptown Campus, individuals volunteer to be “books” and attendees become “readers” who check out a book, meaning they will sit with the volunteer to hear their story. Food and refreshments will be provided to volunteer books, and staff and event volunteers will be present to facilitate.

DOWNTOWN HOURS Location: Tidewater Building Room 2460, Time: Tuesdays, 1:00-4:00 pm Downtown hours are an opportunity for international students, scholars, and staff at Tulane's downtown campus to meet with an OISS advisor, ask questions, and request services. If you are a new int'l student at the downtown campus, you can also complete your required check-in process during these hours. HAPPENING IN NEW ORLEANSLEARN YOUR MARDI GRAS VOCAB 1. KREWE – Groups that organize Mardi Gras parades 2. THROWS – Items tossed from the parade floats. These could be beads, doubloons, cups, and homemade trinkets and toys. 3. LUNDI GRAS – French for “Fat Monday,” it’s the day before Mardi Gras, when the revels intensify after the weekend parades. 4. NEUTRAL GROUND – Grassy medians where crowds stand to watch the parades and beg shamelessly for carnival throws. 5. KING CAKE – A cake with a plastic baby figurine baked inside to represent Baby Jesus. The person who finds the baby is believed to have various privileges and obligations. 6. BALL – A masked ball, where a krewe’s court is presented to the club members. Attendance is by invitation only and limited to krewe members and their guests. 7. SUPERKREWE – While there is no true definition, a SuperKrewe is a bigger than normal group! Be prepared for those parades to be long, some with up to 80 floats! Carnival season officially begins January 6 every year and continues through Fat Tuesday, which falls on the day before Ash Wednesday. This year’s parades will take place between January 6th and February 28th, 2017.
