CGE NEWS & EVENTSAlly/Bystander Intervention Training
The purpose of this training is for you to learn about how you can be a meaningful ally for people feeling targeted because of their immigration status, nationality, appearance and religious belief. The co-founders of Immigration Nation (Lauren A. Burke and Martina Carillo), along with Jenny Yanez (a Cuban American Muslim radio host and activist in New Orleans) will be relaying information on how to be a meaningful ally.

OISS 2017 International Student Survey The 2017 International Student Survey is now live! Your feedback is vital in helping the OISS and Tulane improve. Please check your e-mail for the link that was sent on Monday, March 20th. We will be sending occasional reminders as well. Orientation leaders will work in a variety of capacities throughout the week to ensure that students become familiar with Tulane and to facilitate their adjustment to the campus community. HAPPENINGS AT TULANETulane Black Arts Festival: NOYOM Ft. Sunni Patterson & Pages Matam
The Black Arts Festival will host a special edition of the New Orleans Youth Open Mic. The New Orleans Youth Open Mic (NOYOM) began in the spring of 2014 as a partnership between the Tulane Black Student Union and local poets and teaching artists. The monthly open mic features youth poets from various schools in the Greater New Orleans area and a feature performance by a selected poet. The Black Arts Festival edition of the New Orleans youth open mic will feature spoken word artists Pages Matam and Sunni Patterson. Doors open at 6:30 PM and the show stars at 7:00 PM. 
Interfaith Effort for House Building
Tulane's Interfaith Group, along with members of MSA, Hillel and Tulane Catholics will be co-hosting an event with Habitat for Humanity The site location is 4726 America Street, New Orleans, LA 70126. Alyson is the site supervisor at that site, she will have on a blue Habitat shirt. There will be planned the tasks, based on the number of volunteers for that day. It is recommend that everyone wears tennis shoes or boots and also wears clothes that can get dirty! OGPS International Student Housing Event
The Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies will be hosting a networking event particularly for international graduate students who may not be able to travel this summer so that they can connect with faculty, staff, and other students who may have rooms for rent or house-sitting opportunities. Tulane After Dark Presents: The Space Between US
Gardner Elliot, the first human born on Mars, begins an online friendship with Tulsa, a teen in Colorado. On his maiden voyage to Earth, the 16-year-old finally gets to experience all the joys and wonders of a world he could only read about. Problems arise when scientists discover that Gardner's organs can't withstand the atmosphere. United with Tulsa and on the run, the interplanetary visitor races against time to unravel the mysteries of how he came to be, and where he belongs in the universe. How to Support Undocumented College Students (For Students) 
This session will provide a post-election update on the status of Defered Action for childhood Arrivals (DACA) as well as the benefits and limitations of DACA. In addition, presenter will address how to be an ally for DACAmented and uncodumented students in their institutions and support them on the path to finishing a college degree. Resources guides will be shared, including information on external resources and online resources. How to Support Undocumented College Students (For Staff and Faculty) 
You are invited to attend a special training for Tulane faculty and staff on how to better support undocumented college students on campus on Friday, April 21st from 9:00AM-11:00AM in Qatar Ballroom. The training will be led by Eric Ruiz from the University of St. Francis, who coordinates the undocumented student support initiatives at his campus. Fridays at Newcomb: “An Easy Comparison? Conservative Women’s Activism in Turkey and in the U.S.” 
Esra Özcan is a Communication Studies scholar at Tulane University, Department of Communication in New Orleans, United States. She received her Ph.D. in Communication Science from Jacobs University Bremen in Germany and worked as an Assistant Professor at Kadir Has University in Istanbul. She is a contributor to the alternative news network Bianet in Turkey and the author of the forthcoming book Mainstreaming the Headscarf: Islamic Politics and Women in the Turkish Media (I.B. Tauris, 2018). TUVA Boba Tea Sale

Crawfest is an annual music, food, and arts festival located on Tulane University's Uptown campus. Each year, 10,000-12,000 community members and students enjoy 12 bands on 3 stages, 18,000+ pounds of crawfish, and 25 local food and art vendors across 2 quads. Russian Revolution Online Lecture Viewing: The February Revolution
The Romanov Dynasty, which had ruled for 300 years, was overthrown within five days by a massive revolutionary movement of the working class in the Russian capital of Petrograd. The violent entry of the masses into the making of history raised the central political question of the relationship between the apparently “spontaneous” outbreak of social revolution and the role of conscious political leadership. The lecturer is Joseph Kishore, national secretary of the Socialist Equality Party (US).

Festival International du Louisiane April 26-30, 2017 Festival International de Louisiane is a non-profit organization that produces the largest international music and arts festival in the United States with a special emphasis on the connection between Acadiana and the Francophone world and an estimated economic impact of 49 million annually. With over 300,000 festival goers every year, the annual festival features musical performances by artists from over 20 countries along with workshops, exhibits, visual art, theater and other forms of performance arts. The 5-day festival is held in April transforming downtown Lafayette, Louisiana into an entertainment mecca. For more information, click here> 
New Orleans Poetry Festival April 20-23, 2017 The mission of the New Orleans Poetry Festival and Small Press Fair is to create a space for an inclusive and diverse group of writers to collaborate, share and influence each other while also being immersed in the distinct literary culture of New Orleans. As such, our goal every year is to bring in poets and performers from across the globe to share their work and research in topics not only specific to writing but to cultural, political and activist needs relevant to the current climate. We also hope to showcase the best writers that New Orleans has to offer allowing visitors to partake in the writing spirit unique to our city. The Festival is highly participatory with events ranging from workshops where you will be generating writing to open mics where you can share your work to getting out on the dance floor to listen and dance to our poets with bands. We invite the active inspiration of saturation in four days of poetry along with the collaboration of creating a temporary autonomous zone for fostering further explorations and creations that continue beyond the time spent here in New Orleans.
