Sponsored by the Office of Study Abroad, the Office of International Students and Scholars and the Lavin-Bernick Center for Student Life. ![]() HAPPENINGS AT TULANENinth Annual Student Peace Conference at Loyola University The annual peace conference organized by Loyola’s students includes a keynote speaker, interactive lectures, panel discussions, student presentations, film screening and the Syria and Beyond Refugee Benefit. This fundraising gala will feature international music. This year’s conference runs from Monday through Friday, April 3-7, at Loyola’s main campus, 6363 St. Charles Ave. All are welcome to attend. Headlining this year’s conference is keynote speaker Nadim Shehadi presenting “Jerusalem: Looking Beyond the 20th Century” from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, in Miller Hall, Room 114. The event will also livestreamed at youtube.com/iggyvision/live. 2017 CelebrAsian Week: Main Event featuring Kelvin Yu
Our main speaker, Kelvin Yu, will be performing/speaking on this day. The topic will revolve around Asian Americans in the entertainment industry. We will have an opener by an organization on Tulane's campus. Kelvin Yu is a Taiwanese-American actor and writer. He is best known as Brian Cheng from Aziz Ansari's Master of None and currently writes for Bob's Burgers. Jazz at the Rat
Jazz at the Rat host and curator Jesse McBride will lead a tribute to Ellis Marsalis, New Orleans' premier modern jazz pianist. Jazz at the Rat is a series of live concerts held on selected Thursday evenings at City Diner (a.k.a. Der Rathskeller or "The Rat") at Tulane. Each edition features performances by jazz legends and rising stars, comprising of both visiting artists and outstanding New Orleans-based musicians, accompanied by students and faculty from Tulane's jazz studies program. Dr. Laura Gray-Rosendale, Professor of English at Northern Arizona University and President’s Distinguished Teaching Fellow, specializes in basic writing, rhetoric and composition, visual literacies, discourses of autobiography, and cultural studies. She has spoken with students and faculty at campuses around the country about issues related to sexual violence, consulted with administrators on issues related to Title IX compliance, and published articles about sexual violence in The Chronicle of Higher Education as well as Thought & Action. She is now finishing a book titled Getting Personal: Teaching Personal Writing in the Digital Age that will be out in 2017.
