WE HOPE YOU HAVE A FUN AND SAFE SUMMER! OISS/CGE News and EventsTUPals Needed! ![]()
The International Student Advisory Board (ISAB), an initiative of the OISS, is excited to announce the opening of applications for the Fall 2018 TUPals Program. The primary mission of TUPals is to help new international students connect with their peers and the institution as a whole in order to ease their transition to Tulane so that they may succeed personally, socially, and academically. The TUPals program also provides a great opportunity to current Tulane students (both U.S. and internationals) to develop leadership skills and to interact with new international students and learn about other cultures International Student 'Lending Closet' Drop-off Event ![]()
The drop off location will be the patio next to the OISS office at 6901 Willow Street, next to PJs coffee. Bring any household items or “stuff” that you would like to donate for future international students to use. For example, bedding (sheets, blankets) and towels in good condition, lamps, dishes, cookware, kitchen accessories, small appliances, fans, totes and bins, clothes hangers and unused school supplies. If you are not able to make either one of these times, you may contact Jessalyn Kunz Freeman at jkunz@tulane.edu or 979-561-6671 to schedule a drop off at a designated location that is near the Uptown Campus. Thanks for your support in helping your fellow international students. ![]() OISS 2018 International Student Survey The 2018 International Student Survey is now live! Trash to Treasure is a student-run waste reduction initiative that keeps trash from landfills and puts smiles on faces. We host a spring collection for used dorm/home furniture, storage, clothes, and goods. In August, we host a garage-style sale where students and community members can purchase used items at a steep discount. Our profits then go to various New Orleans non-profits that work for environmental and social justice. TU Legal Assistance Program: Immigration During the summer, the Immigration Program will not conduct consultations on the Tulane campus. Instead, the Tulane community is asked to contact Marco Balducci's office at 504-708-5400 or to email him at marco@peltonbalducci.com and to indicate that they are requesting a consultation through TULAP. Otherwise, they may be instructed to pay a consultation fee. Consultations will be available on the following dates:
Mr. Balducci will make every effort to return the call no later than the next business day. Members of the Tulane community are especially encouraged to contact Mr. Balducci for a consultation prior to traveling abroad if they have concerns about reentering the United States. HAPPENING IN NEW ORLEANSBayou Boogaloo
Bayou Boogaloo features music, food, arts and handicrafts and other sensory delights. It goes on for three days and stages are set up in several widely separated locations so the music on one stage doesn't clash with another. Fest-goers can leisurely stroll about, grab some great New Orleans signature food items and a cold drink and go sit by the waterside and enjoy it, along with the music of some of the city's top bands. Bayou Boogaloo happens right on the banks of Bayou St. John, which gives you plenty of opportunities to enjoy the water. Enjoy the music from a paddleboard or kayak, or canoe your way up to the entrance of City Park. Carlos Rolón: Outside/In ![]()
This exhibition features the work of Puerto Rican artist Carlos Rolón which explores the rich connections between New Orleans, Latin America and the Caribbean, from their shared tropical landscape to the intricate wrought iron fences that define the architecture of both places. A featured installation is Rolón's Nomadic Habitat (Hustleman), inspired, in part, by the prevalence of street vendors throughout New Orleans and the Caribbean. As part of the exhibition, NOMA is partnering with Embajada, a contemporary art organization located in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to helpoffer direct assistance to local artists, cultural workers and their communities in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. New Orleans, the Founding Era ![]()
In commemoration of the New Orleans Tricentennial in 2018, The Historic New Orleans Collection will provide a multifaceted exploration of the city’s first few decades and its earliest inhabitants with New Orleans, the Founding Era, an original exhibition and bilingual companion catalog.
